Recently I installed the iPhone OS 4 beta on my iPhone. One of these days I will learn to not install beta code on production systems. You’d think that I’d have learned that by now. *sigh* So, due to various “beta” issues, I had to switch phones. Luckily I had an unlocked BlackBerry 9700, so I switched to that. It’s been a real treat to us; and I have remember how much I have missed it. I’ve also setup the Google Apps connector for BlackBerry Enterprise Server. I must say that I’m VERY happy with how it has worked. Plus, the battery life on the BB 9700 is really wonderful. The only thing wrong with it that it’s on AT&T (not the BlackBerry’s fault).
So, now I’m really torn. I have really enjoyed Android based phones, but I have found the hardware lacking. The Nexus One, touch screen sucked (not to mention you can’t read the screen in sunlight). The Motorola Droid was heavy. I’m looking at the Verizon Incredible or the Sprint Evo; each have Android OS and the Sense UI (plus, Android is a bit “industrial” look and feel. You’d think that Google could hire a good UI person). However, I must say that the BlackBerry has a solid and nice OS, the drawback is that I pay an extra $40 for BES.
The Evo has a lot of potential; 4G, a forward facing camera, and generally great specs. However, I’m worries about the touchscreen and the network. Sprint is dying, and I wonder how long they will be viable. They have good pricing, but their phones kinda lack. I do see improvement, but they are still hemorrhaging clients.
The Incredible looks good, but I haven’t seen a lot of info on the specs, so I guess I’m in wait and see mode. However, the thought of just sticking with BlackBerry is appealing…but, I either need to get a AT&T specific 9700 (I can only get edge with it b/c it’s a Tmobile phone), switch back to T-mobile, or move to Verizon (I did like the storm2).
Just not sure what to do.
