Droid 30 second review

Yes, I got a Motorola Droid.  Simply put, it’s freaking awesome!

Pros:

  • Great Google integration.
  • Verizon is a good network in my area (YMMV)
  • The “touch screen” is nearly identical to the iPhone (only “difference” I see is with the “flick scrolling”, it’s not a sensitive as the iPhone).
  • The “real” keyboard is nice.
  • It’s thin.
  • The media dock is really nice
  • It has a “car mode”, also nice.
  • 5mp camera is good (it has a flash too)
  • Good speaker quality

Cons:

  • Android Market needs some work, I would love to see a “featured” section…or a “top rated” area.  It’s hard to find the “right” apps (like a twitter app).
  • The phone itself is thin, but “boxy” and “rigid”…not contoured like an iPhone.
  • Really Verizon, charging for Visual Voicemail?  Seriously?

Bottom Line: Solid OS (Android 2.0), excellent hardware = Good Phone.  Do I think it’s the “iPhone killer”…hardware and network-wise YES.  OS, not yet…the *only* issue that I see, is that it’s not “pretty” enough.  I think a little spit and polish would really bring it to the “tweens” and “soccer-moms”…but, for a “geek-type” it IS a iPhone killer.

Update: The battery that I got in the box (i.e. it only had the charge it had at the factory…about 40%), lasted all day long with heavy usage.  Insane!
